2010-01-15 - Energy efficient plant solution to set new standards
ABB has been entrusted by Rodax, a subsidiary of the energy, infrastructure and defense contractor, Metka, to design, engineering, supply and commission a complete distributed control system (DCS) solution for their 427-megawatt, Aliveri gas-fired thermal power plant being constructed on the island of Evia in eastern Greece.
The solution is based on ABB’s state-of-the-art System 800xA automation platform and includes the high-integrity SIL3-rated safety and protection system.
ABB is also responsible for the seamless integration of the gas and steam turbine control systems, being supplied separately through the turbine manufacturer, Alstom.
“Our ability to provide a fast, seamlessly integrated and highly flexible solution that meets the performance requirements of the customer underlines our track record as the world’s leading automation supplier to the power generation industry” says Franz-Josef Mengede, head of ABB’s global power generation business.
Owned by national utility, Public Power Corporation, Aliveri is part of its ongoing program to replace aging plants with high efficiency and low emission units. Scheduled for completion in 2011, Aliveri will be among the most efficient gas-fired power plant in Greece.
