ABB to supply solar inverters for photovoltaic power plants in Italy

2010-09-06 - ABB Italy has made a 50 MW deal with one of the main photovoltaic system integrators in Italy.

ABB will supply solar inverters to several megawatt-size photovoltaic power plant projects in southern Italy. The deal includes several ABB central inverters ranging from 250 to 500 kW, covering a total of over 50 MW. The inverters will be delivered before the end of 2010.

“These are among the most compact inverters on the market, and this deal proves that this aspect, together with their high performance, high maximum efficiency and extremely low auxiliary power consumption are all factors appreciated by the market. We look forward to working with high quality system integrators who can create added value around our inverters”, says Alessio Andreoni, local BU manager for LV Drives in ABB’s Discrete Automation and Motion division in Italy.

“The Italian subsidy program has been consistent and forward looking in order to create a positive environment for the market to grow steadily. The prospects are positive for the next few years, too”, says Andreoni.

The ABB central inverters were launched one year ago, in September 2009, at the 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Hamburg. The inverters are targeted to meet the needs of system integrators and end customers who require premium performance solar inverters for photovoltaic power plants and industrial and commercial buildings. The inverters are available from 100 to 500 kW, and they are optimized for multi-megawatt solar power plants.

ABB central inverters combine reliability and performance in one of the most compact and modular designs on the market. Based on market-leading ABB technology, the inverters comprise proven components with a long track record of performance excellence in demanding applications and harsh environments. In conjunction with ABB’s comprehensive life cycle services, the inverters are engineered to provide a long and reliable service life of at least 20 years.
